travel friendly camera - recommendationsMy daughter is going on an extended O/S trip soon and is looking for a new camera to take with her.

Portability and versatility are big requirements as is ease of use. Picture quality is less important but bang per buck is I am guessing a reasonable PHD, probably with a fair zoom range. Any recommendation in the current crop? Greg

What sort of phone does she have? PHDs are a dying breed. g.

Any of the Canon powershot/Ixus series are excellent in that regard. The 255 is one that I would look at. At around $240 it produces fine imagery and is simple to use. Regards

Re: travel friendly camera - recommendationsWhat about GPS? I brought a Canon SX230 just for the GPS and log feature works well. Just thinking, dearer than Matts idea.

Re: travel friendly camera - recommendationsFuji X10 is a brilliant little camera but needs a skilful operator to get decent results out of it, more so in low light. Canon is far more user friendly.

Re: travel friendly camera - recommendationsI would suggest that one of the Nikon 1 series might be worth a thought as well.

They are for the most part designed to run in auto but have the flexibility to do much more. Not the best in low light but not terrible either. Photography is not a crime, but perhaps my abuse of artistic license is?
