Re: Sony RX1 - FF compactVery interesting. Sony are getting serious. Nikon and Canon need to get their act together before they find themselves out in the cold. Remember Kodak?

I reckon this will be their next minidisc.
Re: Sony RX1 - FF compact
I beg to differ....the Fuji would have to have a Full frame sensor to be the Hexar RF (and a native M-mount)..the X-Pro 1 was close Cameron

Re: Sony RX1 - FF compact$2800 USD for a fixed 35mm camera? Not likely.

Having said that, I purchased a Sony DSC F707 in December 2001 for just a tad under $3K. It was a titanium wonder at the time, until I stumbled upon a wretched website called "D70users", which plummeted me into buying endless boxes of DSLR camera gear.... ![]() President, A.A.A.A.A (Australian Association Against Acronym Abuse)

Re: Sony RX1 - FF compact
They were probably looking at other cameras in this space and on seeing the Leica M? figured they'd make it just less than that D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Thanks for posting that link. The low light examples are pretty impressive! Anyone remember Nikon and Canon? They really need to get their stuff together because they are getting left behind. Take your lesson from KODAK guys because that's what happens when you get too confident. Regards

Re: Sony RX1 - FF compactIndeed they are impressive but at what cost? I thought the X100 was expensive at $1100ish but almost 3 grand for a fixed lens? I don't think it will fly off the shelves....but I may be wrong. I understand with a Leica etc as they generally appreciate (or hold their own) in value, but I can't see this happening with a Sony.

Re: Sony RX1 - FF compactYes, terrific!

But... What it is saying to me is that you would be spending somewhere of the order of $3k for a camera that is good for only a couple of types of shooting, low light and street. Maybe landscape would get a look in too, but my point is that there are too many styles that it will not satisfy. TFF (Trevor)

Those B&W shots look cleaner than many 3200 ISO film negs I have seen (and shot), even pulled at 1,600. Impressive. Regards, Patrick

 Sony RX1 - FF compactBOOYA !!!!

            RX1 scores a 93 on DXO. So the top 10 sensors are basically completely dominated by Sony. That's bloody impressive. EM1 l 7.5 l 12-40 l 14 l 17 l 25 l 45 l 60 l 75 l AW1 l V3

Re: Sony RX1 - FF compactThat's actually the top 10 conventional bayer sensors. DxO have said that they have no plans to test the newer Fuji cameras because their testing process is specific to conventional bayer sensors. The same presumably applies to the Sigma DP1 and DP2 Merrills. If these were included, Sony sensors would still take the top spots with D800, D600, RX1 but there might be more competition below that.

Curiously, I notice that Nikon Rumours reports that the new Nikon 5200 has a Toshiba sensor.
Sony RX1 - FF compactYes that toshiba thing was an interesting little twist I don't think anyone predicted. I wonder if given sonys emergence and significant progression in dslr-ish cameras in their own right, nikon are testing some sensor contingencies. If sony pulled their support for nikon then they'd be in a world of hurt.

Re: Sony RX1 - FF compactThat's a possible motivation given that Sony are already in such a place. They're losing billions of dollars each year and though they seem committed to their photographic division there has to come a time when the proverbial hits the thing that whirls around in the air.

Re: Sony RX1 - FF compactI am glad to see that Nikon is experimenting with alternative fabs, Sony has benefited hugely from Nikon's design inputs for sensors over the years and it really is showing.
