Maitland Steamfest - 19 & 20 April

This one's coming up quicker than you'd realise. Last year was a great weekend away and I'm looking forward to it again this year.

And the following weekend is Ironfest (at Lithgow) 25th - 27th April which we will most likely also visit again.

This coming weekend folks! Yeah - came up fast huh.

Stubbsy and I scoped out a few locations for shooting over the weekend - no doubt he'll be along sometime soon to give some tentative times, but here's a few examples of where we think might be worthwhile...

Greta Station


Branxton Station


Lochinvar Station


We figure we'll do a bit of train chasing on the Saturday and then do the grounds around Maitland Station on the Sunday (they have static displays, other steam items, etc there).

Here is our rough itinerary for Steamfest.

10:50 am - Lochinvar station to catch the 3526/3642 on it's way to Branxton
Then off to Branxton to grab some shots on the platform.
11:15 am - Greta station to catch the 3526/3642 on it's way back to Maitland

After that we'll have lunch early and probably do the rally ground on the Saturday. Saturday PM we're expecting 3.5 metre swells so we'll probably head in to Newcastle for same dusk shots of the ocean

Sunday we'll be trying for some level crossing shots of the 3830 on its way to Paterson (around 11:15 at the Oakhampton rd level crossing)

As Leon has already said - if you plan on being there PM us.

Leon, just thought I would mention how much I like your example shots of Greta and Branxton Station. I especially like the Great with I assume coal? train slithering away.
