Transfer of warranty on used Nikon and Canon camerasHi all

I am still tossing up whether to buy new or used. So todays noob question is - If I purchase a used camera (aussie stock) that has some manufacturer warranty and an extended Mack warranty, does the warranty (both the manufacturer and Mack) transfer automatically to me? D80, 50mm F/1.8, 18-70mm DX, Sigma 10-20mm

Re: Transfer of warranty on used Nikon and Canon camerasManufacturer's warranty on Nikon is not transferable.

You'd need to check with Mack and ask them what their policy would be. g.

Re: Transfer of warranty on used Nikon and Canon cameras
Wow.. really?.. thats terrible.. do you know why cause I think thats terrible business practice cause as far as i would be concerned is that a warranty is a warranty.. whatever happened to good old fashioned service.. *scampers off to check to see if Canon allows tranfers of warranties on their products*.. The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but it's still on the list...

Thanks Gary - just did a bit of investigation and 1) Nikon - not transferrable http://www.nikon.com.au/warranty.php 2) Mack - transerable for a fee ($20USD) http://www.mackcam.com/servicecontracts/faq.htm#12 3) Phototechnical Services - have shot them an enquiry, not clear from their website http://www.phototech.com.au/warranties.htm 4) Canon - not clear from their website, will shoot them an email. Re: Transfer of warranty on used Nikon and Canon cameras
I know it has been mentioned, but that is a load of bulls#$t. How can a manufacturer limit a warranty to a person as opposed to the product. I reckon if challenged against the TPA, it may not stand. Regards, Patrick

Phototechnical - cost about $11 for a transfer and sending out of new certificates. MATT
