Morning Rush hour

Well my 1st entry was from Shanghai China.

I was lucky enough to go there and watch the F1 GP. I didn't want to post pics from the Grand Prix just in case I would give away my identity, so if anyone is interested in seeing my F1 pictures, check them out here

Anyway, I only had one chance to get my shot in from Shanghai. And that was the last morning before returning back to Oz. Shanghai is full of bikes and I got up early (literally their morning peak) and saw heaps of bikes. Since I have been practicing panning from the F1 GP, I thought it would convey movement prefectly...

Here are some shots from that morning...

This shot I managed to get blurred as well as chop the back of the moped off...


Here the subject is looking away, plus not much else going on...


Here I was trigger happy and a little nervous. Its a pity cause there was heaps going on in that scene...


The chinese are very friendly and to show that this girl actually decides to wave. Nice.


The shot that I actually picked to enter was the first shot i decided to keep. I was kicking myself in the head for not getting the whole bike in, but I thought my crop at the back matched the crop at the front
Also I liked how busy that scene was. Another thing that bugged me was the dudes that I actually captured have really new bikes. Now that is rare in Shanghai - most bikes look like they have been passed down through the generations...ahhh well.

Wow... you did a good job not mentioning the F1, as I seriously had forgotten about it and assumed this was eithe staged (really well) or taken in China town or something, not actually in China... I think had you got the old bikes, I may of thought outside the box a little

Chris, interesting you liked #2 - I just liked the fact that the shot I chose had a lot of movement in it (eventhough I chopped the wheels off )

John, Funny you thought it was Mr Poon - imagine it won, he would win his gear back

Alpha, I so wanted to share the F1 pics, but controlled myself...we had good seats and I was really happy with some shots from the GP, considering I was using my trusty 70-300ED lens....

Tony, here is the colour version. I just sharpened it and reduced image size to 600*400.

I think the colour one works better, I get more of a sense of movement and speed. The cropping is still a little issue of course.

Be interesting to see what others have to say. I must admit though I'm not a big fan of B/W or Sepia.

I wanted to hide the newness of the bikes - maybe that point only bothered me...

I reckon it adds to it, the new technology beating the old....... Similar perhaps to our own situation regards to camera gear perhaps?
