First wedding shoot

First time being the primary photog. Did this as a favour for a relative of a friend. I'm not planning on PP-ing every single pic I took (because that would be pure craziness) but here's one I just toyed with for about 5 mins or so.

Image

Please critique away as I do have one proper "paid" shoot next month :) So going to try and do as much research as possible till then.

Very nice capture, you have a good eye for that special moment shot.

Maybe a flash to highlight the darker spots on the brides face would have given a better picture. But the way it is just as good

Pirostich,
Keep it like that, a special moment!
Great works and showing off our ancient/ traditional customs.

Have to say:
This is the first wedding pic on this board made me paying more attention.

A great caputre. I really like their expressions.

I can't make up my mind if the window in the background adds or detracts from the image. I think it adds to it, but I just wonder how it would have looked with a lower down shot with more of the couple and less of the window? But I can't say for certainty if it would be better ..

Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes.

Instant classic. Good eye on composition, and very expressive too... It pays a lot to get into details, but just shoot and practice as many as you can before the "big day".

Good luck!

Great shot. I also like the colour treatment you have given it.

Thanks for the comments and encouragement :)

Catcha, I wanted to use the available lighting that's why I bumped up the ISO to 800 :)

Thanks Spada, I certainly hope it does :)

Birddog, that's what I liked about this...they were both wearing traditional Chinese garments. Made it a bit easier to set the tone and mood :)

DionM and Redline, yeh the window is a pity but had to work quick. It's hard to set up a candid shot :D

Thanks Abet.

Thanks Barry, I like it a lot too :) Hopefully the couple will.

Thanks shutterbug. Your pics were certainly an inspiration.

Wayne

This is a beautiful image with perfect PP. It captures the essence of the event in a natural way. If the rest are like this they'll be a very happy couple.

Piro - don't get me wrong, I think it works very well as it is. I just wonder if it could make any difference. Having said that I have been looking at it again and I think it adds to the effect, really. Brightens up the background.

Great shot Wayne! I think there are a million and one things you could do differently with this one, both when taking the pic and in post, however what you've done just works. Great moment captured, I'm sure they'll be rapt! :)

I really like it. it's all about catching the moment with these things. If you can do that, you're in good shape. When you're just starting, I don't think it's a good thing to worry about too many minor details. Just shoot it the way you're comfortable, making sure you capture the moment, the expression, and the joy. Everything else falls in place as a result.

PiroStich... this is an amazing shot. My workmate just looked over my shoulder and I had to use a bath towel to wipe off her drool

Love the natural light look. Sure a fill flash could make their faces more perfect, but it would have lost its GENUINE edge, and looked more like a stock photograph. This way it looks like it has been ripped straight from the National Geographic magazine.

Dion, no offense taken :)

Admittedly, I wasn't expecting such a great response for this pic...dunno why but I guess I'm criticising myself too harshly again? It's definitely given me the incentive to actually put some time aside now to get more time under my belt with the rest of the pics :)

Wayne your showing your talent in this shot, it has an abundance of appealing qualities and the added value of a unique ceremonial theme.

The perspective is great, backlighting interest and the artistic highlights on the faces a very dimensional image.

Piro

This is a great capture, I like the sepia tones as it suits the traditional ceremonial event. Please show us more of your photos.

Thanks
