Lucky shots

I hope people will contribute to this thread. After looking at some great lucky shots recently, such as the lighthouse photo with jumping dolphin and another was a photo of a ship and a fish just happened to jump out of the water when the photo was taken. I was wondering what else might be hidden away on people's hard drives? Lucky shots where something turned out better than expected.

I'm posting what I regard as a lucky shot. It was taken in a mad panic without me looking through the viewfinder, with the back of my little finger knuckle pressing the shutter button. I was feeding banana to water dragons when this thief came and took some banana and flew away. My camera was hanging around my neck, my left hand held a container of sliced banana, my right hand had dirty fingers because I was throwing banana to the dragons, so I couldn't press the shutter button with anything other than the back of my little finger. The only deliberate thing I did in the second or so of reaction time was pan the camera, but the camera was about chest height and I was hoping the crow was in the shot somewhere. I was in a tangle.






The photo isn't perfect, I don't exactly like the focal point. Bird's butt. But under the circumstances, it's a keeper. What shots like this might each of you have, even if they are not "perfect"?

Taken at the Australian zoo in QLD. They had 2 or 3 Macaw flying around, the E1 continous focus worked and this came out, was lucky to be a bit of a keeper.

Couple of good shots there fella's, they are so bloody hard to shoot at times when you are looking down the barrel,ahh mean veiwfinder so these are both great shots.

This image was a reflex action as the ship lurched out of the water quite a lot and i was falling over backwards with one hand on a rail in front of me hanging on and the other with the camera pointed somewhere in front of me, but no chance of looking through the viewfinder.

I don't know this was a "lucky" shot but this was taken wide angle so I was virtually standing where the wave came over the rocks. The rock line below the water to the left actually dropped by about 1.5-2 meters so I didn't expect this wave

Was a bit of a luck shot getting a photo of these Orange Bellied Parrots (endangered) at Werribee Treatment Plant.

This one was taken back in the days of film, Had taken a shot of the moon and then taken the film roll out of the camera, 2 nights later went out to do some lightning stuff and grabbed the wrong roll of film, anyway when I got it back from the lab this was the result..

LostDingo, I'd say you got a lucky shot if you got something in your shot that you weren't meaning to get, and it made a great photo. With mine, I was meaning to get pretty much what I got, but it was just a lucky fluke.

Stubbsy, mine was taken on Oct 1, but it's not worthy of the competition. Having said that, I don't yet have an entry....

kipper, 4 endangered birds in one shot is really worth hanging on to. It's a nice photo. That's a very photogenic tree.

Great idea for a thread, this type of "theme" (if you can call it that) can produce some really interesting shots. I like what I've seen so far...

Can you give me some details on this shot, time of day, and what filters were used? Love it! looks late arvo , or heavily ND'd ?

Taking a macro of the flower and didn't even know Spidey was hiding there until I was looking at the shot later on the 'puter.

What I particularly like about this lucky incident is the even luckier fact that it appears the beast has gnawed its way through that rock.

I suppose this is my lucky shot I took on Saturday after the mini meet. I rushed down to Riverwood Skate park as I got an invite from the organisers to take a few shots and this particular one I took without even looking through the view finders...

From memory the exif was kit lens at focal dist 18mm, 1/500, f/?, flash. Overall a pretty good result I think.

what time of day was it? Could probably add a CPL as well to further slow things (bring F stop a bit wider too) ... and darken the sky?

Not critquing, more thinking of what i want to do as a similiar idea! Think i might go order 1 or 2 Cokin ND's

Well darb, it was around 1.30pm and you know what.... I have a CPL in the bag. Doh.....!!! I should have put it on, didn't even cross my mind, Next time - I take these sorts of pics all the time. It was just one of those days....

Lucky pic for me would have to be the bike pic. There was element of control for me in terms of shutter and composition, but when those guys are flying past you...you can only aim and shoot
