Brighton beach sunset

G'day all,

Thought we were in for a nice sunset the other night so I thought I'd truck on down to Brighton beach. Ended up leaving late and then getting stuck in traffic so saw most of the sunset from the car as I was driving down there... Didn't have more than a few minutes to find a spot before the colours were gone so the composition might leave a little to be desired

Ah well, was still nice and had a quick play with lighting in PP. Any suggestions or advice is sought as I haven't tried the dodgin' n' burnin' paint with light stuff before, not really natural I think in this setting but would be good for some waterfall or landscape stuff... Was just a play...

Interesting, but watch for a transition area. I can see dark edge (leftover from photo exposed for sky and sea) on the top of the brick wall.

I like how greens appear here.

Damn... im extremely impressed!!!

Images like that.. i wish i could drive... watching the sun come up is awesome.. im normally 70kms offshore when i see it come up.. so.. usually it aint super duper spectacular.. but.. when you see it lighting up pockets of land.... then its got a real wow factor.. like your images... damn there nice!

I prefer the second one. Has lots of potential given some PP to express the atmosphere a bit better...ie. maybe make the sky a bit smoother and subdued. I like the foreground seaweed and rocks.

Whereabouts on Brighton Beach was this? I'll be living around the area soon, so I'll probably be taking quite a few beach sunsets

Andrew, the second one is the shitnitz dude. As Mark Holden says, TOUCHDOWN.

Areas of foreground interest (eg. the rock, the rockpool) coupled along with the other rocks and seaweed and a great sunset to boot. My only nitpick is if you could of got a reflection in the rockpool

I know it's hard to fathom those things in the shitty D70 viewfinder but it's something that you do have to visualize when making landscapes from what I've seen from other peoples works anyway.

Jethro: I think the sand has REALLY BIG GRAINS This just happened to be at the edge of the carpark as I only had a couple of minutes, I could literally see the colour fading but I wasn't going home without something

K.Polak: Spot-on with the merging edge mate. I shouldn't be so lazy when making these small images. I should go back and clean-up. Thanks for mentioning, it makes me more careful, I appreciate it.

Tim: Thanks Was expecting a nice sunset, pity I missed most of it...

Piro: Just south of the Brighton pier, roughly Melways map 67C10. There are some really interesting spots along there with piers and rocky outcrops. Will have to spend a day just wandering around doing a recky for shots later... I'll play more with the sky.

Darryl: Thanks for the tips mate I must admit I always struggle with the tiny little viewfinder. I have enough trouble just seeing what the heck is in it, let alone composing a scene. I think the years are catching up with me as I think my own focal length is increasing
