Hi All, Home again and well lots of work to do with all the images i got but might take a few days to organise them all. Anyhow was warm and i walked all day, had sore feet but least we had a spa so relaxed in that for an hour to help the sore feet.
Ok right place at right time, and as i always have 2 eyes open caught the spill while taking a shot of another bike on a corner, these bikes are doing 300klms around this bend so dont get much of a chance but i missed the first fall but swung around and kept shooting.
This is the money shot, 1 of a few but the buks are on this 1 shot, the only shots of this was taken by me.
More to come later, oh sunburnt as well and Jase was leading me astray.
Cheers
John

John,
It takes passion, dedication, fluency with the subject and skill to make a mark in this genre and it seems you have them all in abundance.
I do hope that you were rewarded appropriately for the power of the shot and the prominence of its publication and I wish you continuing success in this business.
Cheers,

A well deserved reward. You weren't just in the right place etc, you'd also honed your skills to the point where you could also get the shot. Great to see one of the "family" recognised

John, being at the right spot at the right time is a big help but being able to capture the moment with everything else taking place comes down to skill and you my fiend have proven your ability.

John! Well done. Can I ask, did the rider get up and walk away from this? The way he looks like he's going to land on his neck doesn't look good at all! Congrats tho on a great shot...again!

John, I agree with your right place right time comment, but take into consideration all the variables in that, least of all your knowledge of the track and where the good pics were likely to be. Also, having the camera to your eye, being able to pic up the motion, getting the camera to track, not focus beyond the action etc. It all adds up to skill mate, something you have plenty of.
Least we all think so, really well done!!!!

Thanks all. yes well was a great capture, and well i think trhe rewards will be ok as my pro mate is handling it as he has the know and the contacts so yeh was a good weekend. Made my sore feet worth it as it was my first time to this race so was good and even better to now be known as the bloke who got the Lorris crash shots out of all those PRO Photogs that was there that some one in the crowd got it. Also when they found out taken with a D70. We still have feelers out there with some UK magazines and Golden Goose so time will tell.
Geof, he didnt get up and is still in hospital in Melb so this has added to the shots we hope. He is staying for few days as lungs had fluid in them etc... Big fall at 300klms. Ok now i have something like a 1,000 shots to process.LOL
Thanks All.
Cheers

Hey Johnny, glad you made it home safe, mate. Hope you had a great time! My feet are still killing me! John, did you keep the whole paper? I just noticed on page 79 the money shot! Takes up 1/4 page and looks bloody great!!
Here's my Kenny Roberts Jr. shots. Not too squeezy, but there ya go.
Turn 1 looks like the place to be on a Friday. They get up to full speed down the straight then trash it into the corner!
Look forward to seeing some of your stuff and wildlife pic's.

Man, those Marlboro's are dangerous ! and you even got the bike in front of the banner add as well !
Great catch ! Are you really going to sell these shots ? I've grabbed a few like these in the past, but never thought, or had the contacts to sell them.
Any tips for contacting 'buyers' ???
Cheers

Thanks Guys, well goes to show that even us who are on the outside of the fence can pull some good shots off, i have seen some great shots done from the inside of the track too and they have an advantage over us but was good. @of my images that appeared in the Herald Sun was put on Gettys Stock Images. Anyhow my mate has all the contacts so i leave it upto him and he is doing all the work you could say so anything i get is a bonus and will pay for my weekend away anyhow, so was just a good feeling to capture something and end up in a major paper next day.
Jase tagged along and we had some good shots but yeh as i shoot RAW i have lots to process but am doing it now so my day today will be spent here going through them all. My Feet are still tingling.

Darryl, most of them use like a fishing rod belt around the waste and the monopod sits in so it rest there.
Shaunus, right person in the right place. Mate of mine was at the track in the media centre, after i took the shots i gave to him and he then went to work on them and started uploading etc.. and checking his contacts only my name wouldn't go on some as like Getty's.

John,
Just thought i'd pass this story on to you.
My mate just got back from the moto GP and when he was in Melbourne airport on the monday the lady in the newsagents asked if he had been at the races cause he had on his 'moto gp' hat. She then asked if he had seen that 'great photo in yesterdays paper' referring to your image.
My mate replied he had and was mightly impressed. The lady then told him that several of the teams leaving the country had bought many copies of the paper, thrown away the rest and kept your pic.
Seems even the teams themselves are impressed with your handy work.
Well done again.

Thanks Ras, must admit Jase brought me a paper as well and i did the same thing, it has showed up on a UK website as well but like all good things will take awhile to sort out and hear from my mate as to how much it has been brought from Getty Images and used. Would be nice for Getty to put my name with them but as i am a third party they use there name and not 1 of there photogs, so will see what happens as time goes and could be a month ot more before i see any bucks out of it but least it is getting around.
Thanks

In order to get a shot like that a number of conditions need to be met...
You need to be there
You need to have a camera
You need to know how to use your camera
You need to be ready to shoot
You need to shoot at the right time
All of your skills are employed in a split second
You need just a little luck
You need to recognise that you have a good image and show it.
You need someone willing to look at your image...or it ends up like the falling tree in the forest.
Well done for getting it all together!
Regards
Matt. K
