Stockton Beach and Sunset

Here are my better pics from the day on Stockton beach. It was my maiden voyage with fellow D70 users and although I knew a few of the faces everyone was very welcoming and I had a great day. Looking forward to the next one.

Please feel free to leave an opinion. Next time I will need more memory so I can be more trigger happy.

Very clean images Ben. I really like images 3 to 7. There is power in these images with thoughtful attention to foreground interest and composition in general. The last frame has a little flare in the centre and could do, IMO, with a little less rock foreground and more of that tempestuous sea and brooding cloud cover. Great job though!

Nice shots Ben...

I think that these are some of the best images that I've seen from the Stockton Beach weekend...

#1 great DOF
#2 good compo & clouds
#3 a different view of the wreck
#4 beautiful
#5 better
#6 not quite as good
#7 superb
#8 dramatic
Cheers, John

Ben
I couldn't see the whole photo when I first viewed the last frame. Now that I do i like it very much as it is. Just like I imagined when I made my first comment, unable to see the whole image. It looks great! I'd clone out that little streak of flare and you've got a real winner.

Hi Ben,

great photos. I had missed seeing your photos lately, the ones you had in the past were always really good.

Really nice composition on the Signa wreck. I tried doing something different as well, but it didn't come out as nice as yours, didn't bother posting it.

Your sunset shots are also stunning, well done, especially the last one.

There is nothing wrong with having a small CF card, makes one think more about the composition, shows in your images.

Cheers,

Ben

Well worth the wait.

#1 doesn't grab me. There is so much foregorund detail that it distracts me from the rest of the shot and what's in the foreground isn't strong enough to hold my interest.

#2 - Excellent pic. Was this taken with the 12-24? I particularly like the shading in this where we have the shadow of the clouds present on the landscape.

#3 - I have taken countless pics of the Sygna and never seen a good one. Now I have and I hate you. The foregorund grass really makes this shot more interesting and works a treat. Well done.

#4 - I like the shot a lot. It's well composed and holds my interest although I'd have to say the sand is unnaturally yellow.

#5 - A better shot with your crappy tripod than I got with my Gitzo (don't tell birddog  ) Tiny nitpick is there is some green fringing around the rock in the upper right corner. Not sure if this is chromatoc abberration or over zealous sharpening.

#6 - My fave of the bunch. Superbly lit, good composition and an interesting subject. The soft rolling waves in the background and the harsh granular rock in the foreground balance each other exceptionally well.

#7 - the worst of the bunch. There is nothing to anchor me visually because the subject matter is not dramatic enough. This is made worse because the pool in the foreground lacks interest. I think cropping this out would strengthen the shot. Sorry

#8 - This doesn't do a lot for me either - the blown highlight works, but the middle is too soft (too long an exposure blurring the waves too much)

Overall I agree with John - this is the best bunch of pics I've seen from the day.

A great collection of shots, I personally like the last 4 better then the first 4.

You really brought the rocks, the sea and the sunset to life, well done.
