Hi people

its been ages but i need soem advice im goign to relocate to New York in about 6 months
but there is a distinc possibilty of me working in Sydney in 6 month stints since i stil have clients down here

i have 2 2nd hand d2x's whcih are costign me heaps to get fixed everytime i return from a big job im thinking of buying a retail D3 and d300 so i can get warranty and nps membership the problem is since im here 6 months and in new york for the next 6 months what the best course of actrion buy in australia get nps warranty here
or buy it from the states and get the american NPS or by from hong kong(ill be there at the end of the month) non warranty take the risk
someone told me way back that nikon austrralia supports warranty for grey products bought in hong kong

im also thinking i can get rid of my other 2 dx's and d200 in hong kong, as trade in, is that a good idea?

It has indeed been a long time...

At this precise moment I wouldn't be buying anything in Hong Kong as many prices are cheaper here. Retailers such as European Camera Supplies bought heaps of stock when the AU$ was almost at parity with the US$, so the prices in AU$ are very attractive at the moment. It's Nikon Australia stock too, so no problems with warranty etc.

Do some price checks and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

e.g. I bought a D700 for $3495 a couple of weeks back whereas the Hong Kong price was around the $4900 mark... This is only a temporary phenomena, but you may want to take advantage of it...

I think that the concept of NPS transcends the stupidity of how point of purchase affects warranty.

My understanding is that it's supposed to give you benefits beyond warranty, and that are supposed to be available even when traveling on assignment.

But why not check with NA and see what they say?

ive checked with NA currently they do not do nps on hong kong stock there was just a time when they were going to give it to me on special circumstances but depends who i deal with the person i was dealing with no longer works there

buying from ECS seems very attractive i didnt really think about that

Have you asked NPS Aus about reciprocal membership rights or availability in the US? I would personally suggest you buy in either Aus or US and then you should hopefully get NPS coverage at one end or the other (or buy 1 body in each place?)

Hong Kong doesn't seem to make sense IMO to buy from currently.
