Tasmania trip: some photos

Here are some photos from our trip to Tassie the week before last. Critiques are <b>very</b> welcome -- I want to do a better job next trip!

1. <b>headland</b>
from the Spirit of Tasmania II, approaching Devonport
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hangdog/46735661/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/25/46735661_1a3f461e9a.jpg" width="500" height="270" alt="headland" /></a>
Spot metered. I should've shot this in RAW for better dynamic range. Sigh.

2. <b>ordinary</b>
penny farthing in Evandale
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hangdog/46674137/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/27/46674137_ff61637e4b.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="ordinary" /></a>

3. <b>walkway, dove lake</b>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hangdog/46905881/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/31/46905881_c24a1c086f.jpg" width="500" height="400" alt="walkway, dove lake" /></a>
Tried shooting this with less depth of field, but more was better as it sharply delineated the stair edges, albeit at the expense of visible clutter on the left.

4. <b>elephant mask</b>
tree stump at Cradle Mountain
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hangdog/47087567/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/29/47087567_d1397d8a6a.jpg" width="400" height="500" alt="elephant mask" /></a>
Some curves & contrast fiddling to bring out the effect I wanted.

5. <b>cement silos, devonport</b>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hangdog/47082647/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/31/47082647_e425e55ff0.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="cement silos, devonport" /></a>

6. <b>pail of flowers</b>
daffodils at Salamanca Market
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hangdog/48259903/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/27/48259903_7347f08fc0.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="pail of flowers" /></a>

7. <b>atlantic salmon farm</b>
Macquarie Harbour
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hangdog/47063051/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/27/47063051_629f34dd48.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="atlantic salmon farm" /></a>
I'm not sure if this shot really works. I also don't know how effective the placement of the horizon is in this.

8. <b>looking for a map of tassie</b>
at Salamanca Market
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hangdog/48142208/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://static.flickr.com/30/48142208_3642a40bfc.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="looking for a map of tassie" /></a>
Nothing special about this technically, I just had to include it!

Chuan

#3 and #4 are the standouts here. #3 the lovely geometry of the steps is well accented by the angle at which you've taken this shot. #4 has beautiful textures and tones.

Great pics Chuan. I like the composition of the bike wheel and the elephant mask. Well spotted.

My question with the last pic: directions to what?

The last one cracked me up and i nearly choked on my dinner :)
The icing on the cake is the PURE WOOL label below it, a plug for a Kiwi perhaps :)

Great images overall and i see you have enjoyed Tassie.

Thanks, Craig, Peter, Wayne & Steve. I did enjoy myself there and would love to go for a much longer stay.

An interesting thing about Salamanca Market: I think I counted at least 5 photographers selling their work at stalls, all starting at quite affordable prices, and the images were gorgeous and inspiring. I bought a couple of inexpensively-framed (but still quite presentable) 5x7" Peter Dombrovskis prints for $17 each, a bargain.

I think it must be me (maybe) but whenever anyone posts images here within flickr I never see the images but all the code. Am I the only one experiencing this weirdness?

It works fine for me with Firefox Geoff... I can't think of anything that would make it work differently for you...

I think I've got it worked out. You don't need tech heads but two heads to see Tassie images. I can say this without offending anyone because I'm from Tassie.

Please check if Always Allow HTML is set to YES in your forum profile...

If it's not that, then I haven't got a clue what could be causing it...

Dammit I'm slow, just understood the title of the last pic  I guess it depends on how well maintained it is :P
