Was going through some photos I took a week or so ago and decided to PP these 3 images. They seemed to turn out OK, so I thought I'd post them to see what you think of them:

Dave

They're great. What took you so long? Not enough free time

Thanks Potatis & Stubbsy. Yes, my free time is not what it used to be, but I'm managing OK :)

2 replies out of 30+ views.....I didn't think they were that bad.
Perhaps I caught everyone on a slow night

Anyone else care to share their thoughts on my 3 images above ??

The number of replies means nothing. They are great photos whether you get one reply or 100. :)

This is very true Doug. I hope I didn't offend you ? I'd just like to read varying responses to the images, to see what others think, but this does not mean I do not value both yours and Stubbsy's comments :)

Love the first one, and the other 2 while good are no where near the standard of the first (for me atleast). Very nicely done.

Dave, I was not offended. :) I was just reassuring you. (You worried that they might be "that bad") :) I look forward to seeing more of your future posts. Get PPing!

If you look at the reviews and critiques thread you'll see comments to views is on about a 1 to 10 ratio. Yours is a little under that. The number of views is also low, so the issue will be the black hole you posted into. I find I get more comments on posts made in the 7pm to 9 pm slot. Personally this is strange since whenever I log in I look at the "Posts since last visit" lists so the time of the post is of no consequence. Hopefully the occasional shameless bump will get your pics noticed since they are worthy of feedback.

I'll also give some more detaile critique:

#1 - a great example of cropping. Too often we see this beautiful flower with the whole flower on display which means we miss the subtle hues of the blue/purple part. With the cropping here that's ALL we see and it makes for both a different and interesting perspective on the flower.

#2 - I'd like a tad more DOF on this, but I'm greedy

#3 - no problem with the shot, but I'd rotate it clockwise 90 degrees so the bloom was top of frame (anti clockwise isn't too bad either). I think you'll find the image appears much more balanced.

Cheers

Good call on point #3, Stubbsy. I agree. On top with the bloom works best for me.

number 2 and 3 don't grab me, but number 1 is just like....BANG - WOW !

number 2 seems a little hot on my monitor, and number 3 makes you work too hard to find the focal point - IMHO.

In number 1.......So often Bird of Paradise look a little daggy, but this one is pristine. The tight cropping is just perfect for this shot !

Thanks

Justin

thank you everyone for your feedback....that is exactly what I was hoping for.

When I get some more time, I will try rotating the 3rd pic so the flower is at the top, to see how it looks (great advice, too) and I shall also take onboard all other suggestions. I really appreciate your comments and I shall endeavour to learn from them and hopefully utilise everyone's wisdom to grow this passion we all call photography

Thanks also to cim retrevni oh gnug (sorry Mic, I inverted your new name    ) - I think I'm coming down with a case of invertalitis....I hope I get rid of it before the wind changes direction
