Hi all, just experimenting with the new SB-600 and 50mm f1.8.

Any advice? I had it pointed straight at the roof. There was no wall behind me to bounce the flash off.

Nice happy shot. Seems like you used auto white balance as it seems to have a slightly red cast to the shot. Maybe try adjust it in Capture.

Cool, thanks. Flash newbie question...what should I set the white balance to when using the flash (indoors and outdoors, Night, fill)

easiest way to do it is use the auto WB setting if you want to get it spot on you can use custom settings with something like an expodisc but really auto WB is pretty good just make sure you shoot raw and when it is off (like this image) you can correct it in Nikon capture. don't think of this as altering the image so much because white balance is something that is only finalised when the image is rendered to something like a jpg in raw format it is totally changeable with no loss of quality
