My experience is there is a posting black hole after 10pm that images vanish into if posted then. You probably fell victim to that (weird thing is it's 10:28 as I type and I just uploaded a new image post
)
So far as the pics - the bird shot doesn't grab me - ugly bird - strange posture and the image is both a touch bright and lacking in colour to give it some ooomph (sorry). The fireworks shot though is an absolute corker and the name you've given it is perfect.

Interesting birdy - one I'd stay away from. To have teeth it must have a diet that requires it. Wonder what it eats.

I agree that the first bird image is lacking in colour or "punch". Perhaps a tighter crop too. I love the "tentacles" on the second image.
