Water Polo last night

Well I went and shot some winter waterpolo last night. The results were dissappointing as the lighting was too low. Had to up the ISO to get anything half decent (plenty of grain) and to make matters worse went to one of my kids soccer games this morning and took some shots and forgot to change the setting!

The only benefit from the whole exercise was the water splash on this goal!

And many thanks to mitedo (Kevin) for his frames

I like the second image (the closer crop) the best.

An awesome stop of the splash. Do you have the shooting data for this.

Probably the only thing that stands out as bad for me is the top bar of the goal or maybe its the dark line of the back ground. It just catches my eye way too much

I like the second one much more.

The first one i find im drawn to the person thats out of focus and left wondering what you were trying to capture.

Maybe crop out the dark line in the background on the second one as embi pointed out.

**edit** BTW i wouldnt be able to get a copy of the script for the frames off you as well, ive been looking but havent found anything that i like on the web.

Well done for seeing the true potential of the first shot... It would have been very easy to overlook.

The second shot is great and still has a good detail despite being a crop.
Great symbolism...

Agreed with the others, the crop works better. Nice work, do you have more from this series? :) The WB seems a bit cool (no doubt due to the large amount of blue in the scene), for example the (presumably) white goalposts have a blue tinge to them; doesn't detract from the image much though!

To the naked eye, would the goalposts have looked blue ?? Perhaps they were reflecting the blueness of the water ?? Correcting them back to white may make the image look right....but in nature white is not always white (our brain interprets it as white and we see past that blue tinge - unless we really try to focus on what the actual colour is).

Just an observation... BTW, great capture & I really like the crop better as well. For me, the story is the ball hitting the water and creating the splash. As the person in the shot is not anywhere near the ball, they seem insignificant...IMO.

Ooh yeah  I didn't think of that! You're completely right, it may not be a WB issue at all.
