On good authority from me, it's a Nankeen Kestrel (Adult).
I'd invest a bit of time and clone out the barbwire from the picture. Great capture, sharp as and it'd be even better without the wire. Last edited by kipper on Sat Jun 18, 2005 4:56 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Yep, according to Morcombe's "Field Guide to Australian Birds" it's a Nankeen Kestrel (falco cenchroides). Hard to tell if it's a juvenile or an adult female - plumage is very similar. Kipper would be able to tell....

It's a great shot Chris. I love the posture of the bird. Simon

That's a great capture. Lovely and sharp and the bird engages the viewer really well. Peter

What, you mean like this?
![]() Btw, this is the same Black Shouldered Kite (or one of the pair) that we were shooting at WTP. ![]() Last edited by kipper on Sat Jun 18, 2005 11:21 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Chris - the shot you have taken is excellent - I would leave the barbed wire in the shot as it adds something different and has a good angle.

Great shot, pin sharp and full of colour. Keep the barbed wire in as i reckon it adds a bit of contrast to the bird.
