The blown highlights detracts from the shot a little for me, but I imagine it wouldn't really be avoidable here.

Wonder how this would look with the whole '2 shots combined with layers' trick. One exposed like this, and one uderexposed to pick up detail in the water. Not that you can go back and do that now. . . so I'll just shut up

I dunno what the fuss is about blown highlights at times. Your eyes see blown highlights all the time. If the sun was in another location if wouldn't of probably created a backlight effect, with the subject matter silhouetted.

Kipper is so right Dee - without the highlights in this photo it would not have the impact that it does - I like

I always make a point of checking out your pics because they are so different to many I see. This one is no exception. A fantastic example of why we shouldn't obsess about blown highlights all the time (same goes for straight horizons . Like others here I think the framing on this works fantastically well and the blown highlights on the water add rather than detract from the image. Thanks for sharing this great pic.

The burst behind the column is perfect but I can't help thinking the water would look better with more detail (but still very bright)

That said, I still REALLY like the shot, and your work is several bars ahead of where I'll likely ever be, so please don't take me seriously

Wow, really like this Dee... You have a very good eye, I always enjoy viewing your posts... While the highlights don't worry me, I could understand why the highlights in the water might for some...

I also sometimes don't understand why lots of people are worried about blown highlights. It really depends on the picture. I mean, if you have a huge ball of fire, like the sun in it, there isn't much you an do. I mean in this picture, he even shot the sun behind those pillars.

As for this picture, if doesn't distract me at all. I think it adds to the picture and the scenery. This picture is a very nice one, very consistent with flipfrog's style. Another great capture!!

I agree. The brightness on the RHS is balanced by the bloke leaning against the pillar on the LHS. The overall balance of the image is excellent. I really like this pic.
