Hand held 1/160 sec f3.5. Not ideal but happy with the lens.

Phillip - it is a great lens and once you get the real feel for it your pics will pop - not saying this pic is not good, because I do really like it

Thanks Chris, it's not bad as a general lens either, this shot was straight out of the camera, my next door neighbour's dog stuck her head out from under the fence and I just snapped without even looking at the settings.

By 'not ideal', are you saying a tripod is needed
As Chris has said, as you get to know the lens, better and better results will come. If it is of any consolation, this shot is better than I did at the beginning.

Yes, definetly need to use a tripod with macro, needed more d.o.f. and exposure wasn't quite right, I had to bring it up in PP and whenever you do that, quality suffers.

The rose is a bit past its use-by date but was shot directly towards the sun, I was expecting more flaring.
