Early attempt with sigma 105

Hand held 1/160 sec f3.5. Not ideal but happy with the lens.

Phillip - it is a great lens and once you get the real feel for it your pics will pop - not saying this pic is not good, because I do really like it :D

Thanks Chris, it's not bad as a general lens either, this shot was straight out of the camera, my next door neighbour's dog stuck her head out from under the fence and I just snapped without even looking at the settings.

By 'not ideal', are you saying a tripod is needed :?:

As Chris has said, as you get to know the lens, better and better results will come. If it is of any consolation, this shot is better than I did at the beginning.

Yes, definetly need to use a tripod with macro, needed more d.o.f. and exposure wasn't quite right, I had to bring it up in PP and whenever you do that, quality suffers.

The rose is a bit past its use-by date but was shot directly towards the sun, I was expecting more flaring.
