Walking towards the light (and playing)

Here's a few captures from this evening (I wonder if I should save these for the comp? Ah well too late.I liked the subtleties of the waves in this one when the rest of the water is still



I sort of like the perspective of this one and I'm really drawn to those damn lights. I haven't gotten them perfectly yet but this is getting closer.



And lastly I got this one of Garibaldi. Unfortunately for me in my 2 minute struggle to get my 70-300 on my camera the light had receded some. Here's what I got. I manipulated this one quite a bit to get the sky to glow and balance out the light on the lower right.



These are noticably softer as I now view them on the web. Do I size them too small? Comments and critique are welcom and expected

#1 beautiful light and I also appreciate the forground interest in the waves - makes me want to go on holidays again

#2 a very interesting perspective and I think you have captured the lighting well - would love to know the settings on this one.

#3 I'm in constant awe of your mountain shots. If I ever come over and visit can you teach me how to do that.

Dave - why worry about the comp as you come up with great photos every week

The colours in #1 are superb - I just love the setting of the sun, mind you I like to see it come up the next day, if you know what I mean

Love #1 and #3. I suspect that the horizon in #2 is not quite level, perhaps you could fix it in photoshop

Dooda, I think all the shots are great though #1 and #2 hold greater interest for me. Had I not been completely "mountained-out" in New Zealand last year, #3 would have really entranced me but I'm currently a little "over exposed" ('scuse the pun) when it comes to snow-covered peaks. No reflection on the photo at all - it's magnificent. I know what you mean about receding evening light. It's a constant bug-bear of mine being able to get the gear set up to capture a beautiful but fleeting sunset shot.

#2 is actually the one that I"m most interested in hearing about as it closely resembles art except with an F and a Y at the beginning and end, and I'm never quite sure if I nail these or not. The other two are mostly for your viewing pleasure.

I could understand being burned out. I'm actually burned out on this particular peak as I've taken many a shot, but I'll only be living around here for a short while so I figure I should try and get as many dramatic pics of it while I still can.

I'd love to teach you, but generally I point and shoot and then do it up in PP (curves etc). We also have a lot of Seagulls, so you'll have to teach me to take great seagull shots. Our Seagulls are the size of Rhinos though so you have to be polite to them.

I have some camping trips planned out for the summer so I'm looking forward to getting some more great nature shots (preferrably remote lake shots).

As far as I'm concerned - you've achieved your objective. I think it's well balanced, colour is great and the composition draws the viewer in. be a good advertising shot, IMHO.

I can certainly understand that sentiment. We take so many things for granted when they are literally staring us in the face. Take and post as many as you want!

Piro, come close...closer still...sssh, the stars are cloned Actually I had only about two stars so I thought couple more might be nice. Don't usually manipulate like that but it seemed subtle enough.

This pic is from Ambleside, just down the road from Horshoebay. I'll be taking some pics from Horshoebay this summer though, probably around whitecliff (my favorite swimming spot in the summer).
