Sit and ponder life at Alfred Nicholas gardens

G'day all,
Went out for another saunter today, makign the most of a few days without work, woo hoo!!! Lucky the mobile didn't go off otherwise I reckon it would have ended in the drink... They don't seem to float in a jug of beer I found once ages ago...

Anyway, went out to Alfred Nicholas gardens in Sassafras/Sherbrooke, the (Australian?) dude that invented Aspro lived there, wow the gardens are incredible, huge lake with several bridges over the water, even a couple of waterfalls... What a backyward, but he never finished before he passed away, now it's owned by VIC parks...

Beautiful place to just sit and ponder life, tried my hand at my first B&W play, slight vignette to centre focus...

Critique or just sticky, I'm easy (errr ummm maybe I shouldn't have said that  ) I'm not sure if they actually work or not... :?

Cheers,
Mudder PS. Hmmm just in preview I can see I've stuffed up the toning on #2, rats!

Nice work mudder. Looks like a fantatsic spot

Just as a posting point, I would prefer to see a small gap between the photos.

I actually like the toning of number 2, it has a real retro look to it.

My only suggestion overall would be to give them a bit more punch. The BW is great, but maybe a bit of a curve to bring up the contrast slightly.....

Geez Mudder, you know all my good spots! Unfortunately you're beating me to them as I haven't been out and about up there lately. Was planning on hiring a car soon to go to some of those places you've listed recently.

IMHO no. 3 works as a BW but the others I would love to see in colour. No. 2 I think would work well with the small amount of colour in the shot, either the seat in colour and the rest in BW or the palms in colour and the rest in BW.
Just a thought, lovely spot. Was it a nice overcast day?

Yep, GregB is right you need more contrast in your tones. How are you converting to B&W? Some of the iFX actions are pretty good with some manual adjustments.

G'day,
Thanks for the feedback, was my first play in B&W and I actually upped the gamma/mid-tones to get some detail in the dark areas but I think it looks better with the extra contrast as you've shown Greg...

Some colour ones for Genji :)

Seeing the colour ones I think I agree with Greg B. BW do look better, funny how your mind works after you see them side by side.
