I had the pleasure today of having Fozzie to lunch and a little talking about you know what.

Fozzie has the Sigma 150mm f/2.8 macro and I have the Sigma 2x teleconverter. The shot below is of Birddog’s Gitzo G0127 tripod with the BH25 head, kindly loaned to Fozzie for the afternoon.

The point of this photo: Fozzie’s 150mm with my 2x teleconverter shot handheld - 1/50th sec @ f/8 iso 200 - I am impressed - what do others think :?:

Impressive Chris. I'm assuming this was at 150mm

Hand held and no VR - you must have good hand holding technique- shows the lens works beautifully with the TC too

OK everyone - I now have to apologise (too much red wine). The pic of the Gitzo was taken with the prime 150mm macro (and not with 2x teleconverter).

This photo was taken as a test with the 150+2x = 300mm

The downsizing has taken away some of the sharpness I can see on my monitor.

Chris - still a good shot - although the boke is a little harsh IMO. Hope the red was good.

Yes... to be totally honest that is the one thing that puts me off the sigma is that if there are highlights in the boke they come out rather harsh!

The red was excellent, as was the company.

I find that boke is very much a personal taste scenario. I will, hopefully tomorrow, take exactly the same shot with the 70-200 and converter and see if there is a difference. It will be interesting.

I believe the theory is that you get better boke from a lens with an odd number of aperture blades - hopefully someone can inform me if this is true or not.
