The shot below is a rework of one I've previously posted. While I liked the original it just lacked punch - hence the rework. Clicking the image will display a larger version.

The original post had minimal PP, but for this one I've done quite a bit. I'd be interested in your comments both good & bad.

Beautiful shot Peter. I haven't seen the original post but I'm curious as to what PP you did with it. Levels/dodging & burning?

I personally find the stretch of sky a little distracting and possibly would have cropped the top a bit. Just my own preference.

Peter - the original was great, this is a fantastic version of it. Although I'm only looking on the laptop, so it's a bit hard to be sure on the colour and contrast.

What I would suggest is to try a crop with less of the blue sky, so that the top is only just above the highest cloud on the right.

Other than that, looking forward to seeing this one printed out

I think the blue sky needs to be there to give the pix balance, other wise it would be just a pix of just clouds and mist

Beautiiful shot Stubbsy... I would have taken something similar, but I wasn't allowed to stop at the time... The whole journey from Blackheath to Jenolan was filled with photo ops, but unfortunately I missed most of them...

One of these days... I'll go back there and grab the same (or roughly similar) shot...

I guess the shot ops in the morning made up for you guys not getting the sunset eh!
Strange thing is we at the campsite saw nothing of all this wonderful fog. Perhaps we were just in the middle of it!




We did have some great camping weather though, other than the bit of rain we got while setting up on Friday night! That was a bit of a challenge, but value for money and good old fashioned experience, you can't go past camping

Sheepie: I agree with your crop suggestion.

Big Pix: I know what you mean but I think the crop just above the cloud that Sheepie mentioned would be enough blue sky.

Peter: Fantastic shot. I love the way the suns rays are defined in the fog (between the limbs and branches of the trees) in the foreground.

In PSCS I did a manual curve adjustment to bring up the shading in the clouds, then used adjustments/shadow & highlights to slightly darken the foreground. After that I applied a NikColorEfex skylight filter and a polarizing filter to respectively add a slight yellow glow and to bring up the colour in the sky, then I manually adjusted the colours to add more blue and less red in the highlights.

2. I tried the top more cropped before posting and the sky got visually constrained by the line of clouds just above the mountains (basically like big pix said).
3. This area was unbelievable that morning (and, no doubt others). the view at the top of Victoria Pass would have been much better than this if only I could have stopped

Thanks for that Peter. The work paid off - it's a winner.

I'm very pleased with the finished result. I think this shows what can be achieved if you start with a great shot and judiciously use PP to enhance its qualities.

And it looks awesome printed out in A4 on my Canon printer

Edit: For the curious, this was my first attempt (and it had a slightly tighter crop on top & bottom of the image)

Wow, that's an inspiring image... You must appreciate getting that...

Lovely and interesting shot, Peter. Your rework is a definite improvement, IMO.
