Couple of still life tryoutsHi Guys,
Tried doing some "arty" still life. Comments appreciated. ![]() ![]() Cheers Matt
From an artistic stand point, your first one is great, if not kitsch, and your second one lacks depth and substance.
That's from an artistic stand point, though. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

Matt, I think they both have something. The first one is probably better than the second, but I don't really agree with Leigh's assessment - I think it has artistic merit, although the pencils would have looked better if they were all sharpened to the same degree. And I would have put them in colour order.
The forks look great. Good work Greg - - - - D200 etc

I would have done that greg, but I was lucky to get that shot. Moments later I disturbed where they lay for the umpteenth time and decided to abandon the idea by tilting the board and letting them run off. I underestimated the patience needed to arrange pencils like that - makes you appreciate record breaking dominoes people. Thanks for the comments guys, I prefer the forks too. I like the shadows caused. Matt
Very nice rokkstar,
Very creative thought process ![]() Yeah the Forks are great ![]() The pencils I like too Keep up the thinking process. Mic. ![]()
AWESOME first shot. The shadows really work for me.
It looks like it should be hanging up in a cafe or something. WELL DONE!!! ![]() Kellogs
Matt - the first shot of the forks shows artistry and I like the composition. For me the second shot of the pencils is very mundane and contrived IMO. But the one thing to always remember, everyone sees differently

Thanks for the comments everyone.
I think the problem with the pencils is that I didnt invest as much time in the lighting. I thought that the pattern would be enough to give it interest. I might reshoot it with some different light angles and make everyones eyes hurt evenmore ![]()
Well the lighting set up is extremely simplistic.
Its a normal desklamp angled low down with a daylight balanced lightbulb in it. That's all that i have used. No diffuser, no softboxes nothing. That is it. I wanted to say something amazing and wowing but unfortunately there is no magic.
Print out the forks and mount it in your dining room
