Possum
To be honest, I don't like possums. I had to pay Peter the Possum man $300 to get one of the mongrels out of the roof, and one other very large one crawled under the house and died, right under my music/computer room. Had to cut and remove some floorboards to get it out. It was not a pleasant experience.
However, I do like the fact that we have wildlife in the area, even if they are giant rat-like creatures (Did I mention I don't like 'em?) And what is the story with running across the roof tiles - do they put on combat boots or something? Anyway, this one was sitting in our orange tree. It is a pretty basic shot with the SB800 on TTL, but I am sure the possum would like it to send to relatives who are no doubt busy annoying other people with their possumic antics.

Looks like you've got the SB800 well sussed, I'm still getting the hang of mine, although I think the Possum looks more like a stunned mullett

Apparently you are not supposed to Chris. In fact, you can't do anything to them (except pay Peter the Possum man vast sums of money to take them away to some approved possum resort) Greg - - - - D200 etc

I guess I knew that already but after arriving in this country and being plunged into the Pilliga Scrub country and seeing what they do in the Bush I just wondered  Chris

Truth be known, we love all animals (even the ones that give us the shits) - the RSPCA is our favourite charity, and I strongly urge you all to give it a bit of support if you can. But I do sympathise with you when the cats are gettin' jiggy with it outside your window Greg - - - - D200 etc

Actually I've eaten possum and it was very tasty. Had it at the Grange Restaurant in the Adelaide Hilton a few years back. Prepared by Cheong Lieuw one of Australia better chefs. Apparently the possums are farmed in what used to be an apple orchard in Tassie where it's legal to kill them.

You'll love the SB800, Simon, it's truly wonderful. But I'm tipping that you'll hate the manual!
Thanks Trevor. Lucky I'm surounded by such expertise. Sorry to get off topic here Greg - it's a great shot! I happen to like possums but I've never had living in my roof or one un-living beneath my floorboards. I appreciate your angst. Simon

No worries about going OT Simon, the prospect of an imminent SB800 is very exciting. I am ashamed to admit that I haven't spent very much time learning the intricacies of it as yet, it works so well on dumb mode!! But I will. Yes, the manual is a bit painful. I think it is partly because it is covering use with a number of different Nikons - film and digital - and it kinda goes all over the place.
But fortunately, you can just stick it on the camera and away you go. I recommend the Varta 15 minute charge batteries and charger. Greg - - - - D200 etc

Thanks for your comments Greg. I've had the beasty sitting on my desk here at work since it was delivered first thing this morning but I'm under strict instructions from She Who Must Be Obeyed not to open it until my birthday tomorrow. Oh the pain!!! So close and yet so far!

Whilst photographing (and working sometimes) in NZ, it just so happens that there's millions of the varmints everywhere, I've shot many, this time with a 22LR and not a camera, they say there's approx 80 million of them although I gave up counting after 35,566...

Know how you feel. I've had this mongel Tasmanian Tiger sneaking into my backyard and killing chickens. (You know...the hound with stripes that they put on beer cans?). Anyway...I shot the damn thing and threw the carcass into the dam. Wouldn't be suprised to hear they were protected? Next one I see I'll get a snap with the D70. Regards

Nice photo of Tasmanias State Emblem, although not quite the way they present it.
Having just returned from a couple of weeks holiday in the Apple Isle I am promptrd to jot down a few lines in praise of their State Coat Of Arms. Any one who's been to Tassie will have seen it every 200yds on any road. Peter the Possum went out at night He didn't look left & he didn't look right He walked onto the road in front of a truck Now Peter the possum just ran out of luck. Cheers Rick.
