Coffee

Inspired by MattyJ's coffee photo of a few weeks back, I tried to get a couple of coffee shots. Unfortunately, I don't often get good extractions when I plan to take photos, and this home-roast has been very finicky in terms of grind, dose and tamp, so the shots where often over- or under-extracted.

I must say the roast is very nice with citrusy flavours, a nice acidity and a pleasant aftertaste.

C&C appreciated.

Image PS. I know, E-61 group heads are a pain to photograph.

hehe - nice self portrait Patrick! They are very shiney eh!

Nice pic - can I suggest a crop just below the line of the group head, so that only the handle and spouts are showing. That gets over the problem of reflection, and provides a nicely balanced pic (imo).

That reminds me - must go and roast some supplies for the week ;)

all i can say is i'm glad you kept your clothes on while taking the pic :)

you might want to rotate it about 1 or 2 degrees CCW as it's leaning a bit

I think what I've learnt about shooting espresso shots is to set everything up (photography-wise), then pull a few shots to get the espresso working. That way, if the start of the shot is looking promising, you can pick up the camera and start shooting.

Which burns through a bit more coffee ... but anyway.

And you're probably already doing that. It's like baby advice ... whatever works.

Thanks guys.

Leon - I know what you mean about the crop, however, I do like the look of the 4 or so kg of metal! :D

Wayne - thanks for the advice re alignment - I was in a real rush.

Matty, this was my third shot I pulled this morning - I thought I could get a better extraction by up-dosing and tamping harder. I should have just adjusted the grind. One thing the Mazzer has - stepless grind adjustment, which the Macap doesn't have.

I like this shot. I like it a lot.

I wonder how a macro of the glass and coffee itself would work out?
