Accidental panorama

Hi all,

Hoping for a bit of advice to rescue this photo.

This was stitched together from two jpgs taken handheld a few minutes apart from the same location near Queenstown, NZ. I never intended for them to be part of a panorama, and indeed, neither of them stood out by itself when I was browsing through my photos from the trip. For a bit of fun, I tried to play around with stitching when I noticed they matched up quite well. The end result - a much more powerful image, and hence the "accidental" in the title.

I really like the way it projects the vastness of the landscape, but the hazy colours spoils some of the "excitement". Does anyone have some advice on what post-processing I can do to improve it?

Ben

If that was my image - I'd mask off the top and the bottom. Try adjusting the exposure on the sky down 2/3rds as the hills are nicely exposed.

Increase the contrast and saturation...

Is that next to Coronet Peak? I did a walk ages ago and that view looks familiar.

I agree with Ronza. Maybe bring down the highlights in the sky. Mountains are exposed nicely.

Once you try Ronza's exposure treatment, you could always try a B&W conversion?

I agree with masking some of the sky out. Otherwise, i like it.

The mountains in NZ are a fantastic place. Could spend months there exploring...

Correct. We ended up at that spot after going through Hell's Gate then Heaven's Gate (or the other way aruond) as part of a local 4WD tour.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'll give it a go tonight and post the results.
