Here are some photos of the 2006 Ferrari F1 car doing a demonstration on Lygon Street in Melbourne to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Ferrari. The pilot is Scuderia's test driver Marc Gene. What a sight, and what a sound!

Sadly these were taken with my 18-55mm kit lens, so they lack that little bit of sharpness that would otherwise make me think these were decent shots.

I don't know about that. I reckon they're pretty sharp (for a Ferrari). Now a shot of a Williams would be sharper by definition

Good shots though and great panning.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the sharpness of these shots mate. I also like it how you went for hte slow shutter speed to give that sense of motion.

well done!

yeah - I think if you were going to get sharp shots a Ferrari would be the best chance....of course you'd have no chance with a Renault !!!

What an experience that must have been up Lygon Street !!! Great shots !

Cheers

Mate!! I don't see a problem either, the kit lens has been given a bad name. It may not be the best lens that can be bought but I have seen some great results with it.
