Worth the effort?

I've been forcing myself to use focal lengths above ~30mm - stuck in a very enjoyable, wide-angle rut recently :). Any comments on either of these? I'm not quite happy on the cropping in either (particularly #2) but not sure how to fix this.

I like the second one...it has a lovely eerie yet peaceful feel about it...if that makes any sense...lol

The first one is okay....but it was obviously a bright day and that has blown out some of the waves etc...:)

They both seem ever so slightly off kilter to me. (Horizon lines not quite horizontal.) Not sure why on the first on as there is no horizon, but I still get that feel The second seems to be about a degree out using my screen as a straight edge.

That aside, I like #2 best, but I understand what you mean by cropping. The horizon is very close to centre, but if you move it, you destroy the cloud elements, or the swimmer element, & I like both. Maybe try losing the light band of sky???, but then that balances the foam in the water.

Sorry, I'm not helping

I quite like the second one also. Tough to tell but if you move directly down from the red swimmers head, the point where the white turns blue, I'd make a horizontal crop just under that point. Think this will bring the Horizon a tad lower and away from center, and give a pano feel with the longer shape.

Not sure, and the descrtiption is like bad chinese whispers, but it's worth a shot.

Looking twice, croping out the bright section on top of the clouds could work also. Puts the focus on the swimmer and has the same effect of improving the balance, without losing the wonderful colour in the sunset.

I really like the second but i feel it would look better without the swimmer to me it distracts from the great colours in the background and just think the rocks should be more of a focal point but it's a great image.

Both pics I like. The 1st that it can actually be used as a sports billboard ad or some motivational poster. The second because of atmosphere. Didn't really notice the swimmer until someone pointed it out to me
