Strange Spider!!! And some birds!!!

Anybody know what type of spider this is? I wouldn't have a clue...

I also tried some shots of birds but being overcast I had some troubles...

Given the time of day (sun looks fairly high), the overcast sky actually probably did you some favours. Overcast days help to reduce the light and difuse it producing less contrast between areas that are in full light and areas in shadow so exposing correctly for birds perched, wading etc is ideal. However I would refrain from shooting birds in flight on these sorts of days as you'll find highkey bgs not the most pleasing.

The spider is a Astracantha Minax also known as the christmas or jewel spider. If it was about 8mm in length it would be the female or if around 3mm the male. :)

I am guessing then it was a group of females as there were 6'ish spiders to a single web...
