Anubis - the first shot is my favourite! Your Mrs seems like a great bird I assume taken with the beautiful 70-200VR? Where were these taken may I ask? :) :D

EDIT: there was a joke about Geoff Quoting himself, but the post has gone, and so has my joke.

Anyway Anibus I like no.4 just for being able to her with wings fully expanded, pitty about the busy background. But great stuff overall...

I dont think I'd like to get on her bad side though

Hi Geoff, Yes they were taken with the 70-200mm (magnificant) lens. These were taken in Rotorua, New Zealand (my home town) when I was over there seeing my parents.

The avery is about 20 mins by car from the city centre.... am actaully sponsoring her.... can't wait to go back for Xmas :)

For more info...see

http://www.wingspan.co.nz/

Tell you what guys watching her fly is amazing saw her take down a duck 3 times her size.... was amazing. Unfortunately I was saw taken by the chase (and kill), forgot about the camera hanging around my neck !

Thanks Paul and Jonesy, it took me like 300+ photos (can you believe it?) just to get some good ones.....

Anyway am anxious to see if the D200 auto-focus will help me keep up with her a bit more...then again its probably my technique... :)

any hints?

I love the first shot Anubis. As Jonesy said, the background's a bit busy on the last 2, but they're all lovely photos.

What are the AF settings you're using at the moment? What is it about the other shots that you don't like?

Andrew

Nice photograph of the New Zealand Falcon, sort of bears some resemblance to a Juvenile Peregrine.

Hi Andrew, I am using basically Dynamic Focus (with centre AF point selected) and AF-C. My issue is the speed of the lens to auto-focus following the Falcon, it is a little slow. Maybe I should boost the ISO or something (have it on ISO 200 in most cases).....

Acquisition outside the central AF Cross-type point is a little slow (maybe the orientation of the sensors?

What do you think?

Hey Kipper,

Thanks....

Hey heres a interesting fact, apparently NZ Falcons are the most ferocious of hunting birds of this size......even more so than the Harrier Hawk.

Cool, the Peregrins I were photographing today in my first expedition out to where they are was quite interesting. They're very protective of their Juvenile (which is quite big). One stayed with the Juvenile, while one buzzed me (doing low level passes and chattering/making alarm calls). Watched them do a food drop in midflight aswell.
