They put in a pond thingy at a park nearby.
I think it is for flood mitigation on a new housing development they are building.
Been keeping an eye on it to see if waterfoul and stuff would like it.

these are tiny 15cm max and hadnt seen one before.
shame about the small oof branch in the foreground would have climbed the fence to get closer but probably would have been arrested.

Nice shot of a Black Fronted Dotterel Steve. The various subspecies of Dotterel are very speedy on their feet. Once they catch wind of you they're off like a light and it's hard to track them.,

I was hiding behind some reeds and you can see one in the foreground.

I wanted an id shot and it took ages cos this thing was running high speed laps between the reeds. It eventually paused and I got a few shots which I thought were clear but not quite.
I tried to get closer but as you say off in a flash.

Don't you hate the pesky reed in front of the lens trick. I've done it a few times and looked after I've taken the shot and gone "DOH!"

I looked at the shot after taking it and thought. good, gotcha so I stopped shooting at moved off.
looked at the shot at home later and went "oh golly!! I have made an error in judgement, or words to that effect!!
