I know this isn't the right forum to ask this question but I need a very quick response and know most people visit this section - I am going to a fireworks show tonight and have never taken any night shots - what settings would you recommend. I am taking a tripod but I dont have a remote release for the shutter....
Thanks all

There are a few threads floating around with suggestions.

Of the top of head, a know a few people use long exposures and something black to cover the lens... and only "expose" the lens when the fireworks are at their desire "bloom". This way you have more control over what actually makes it to the CCD.

Other suggestions are get there early and try to locate the best vatange spot. I think other members have shot between f8-f16 for their, but I recall someone suggesting f22 if the fireworks are very bright to prevent from blowing out the highlights, I recommend keeping the ISO @ 200 I don't think you should need it higher, but I guess it depends on the situation.

cc - the duration of most fireworks is very short 2-3 secs, not quite as as fast as lightening but still quick. It is hopeless trying to anticipate so the lightning method of ten sec exposures fired off one after another should work quite well.

Try a 4 second exposure on f8 along with manually focusing on infinity
