from a few weeks back
I kept facing the wrong way, turning to accomodate that and then missing lightning in the direction I was originally facing. sheesh

the tall lights are from on top of the car park I was sheltering under.

Nice capture, lighting is a tricky beast to capture, especially if you are presented with it from all angles

ahhh - the quality of lightning captures on this forum keeps getting better and better
I like this because the foreground inclusion gives you a sense of the size and immense power of the lightning - well done on a difficult subject to nail

Nice shot mark, it is hard to get i have been trying but yeh always seem to miss it, and ends up pi##ing down so give up.

Nice work, I was trying to do same last night in Coffs but was literally blown back in doors, covered in sand and muck! We'll keep trying anyway.

You need TWO cameras

One last thing, not meaning to be critical but are they dust bunnies I see in the bigger photo? Maybe need a clean of the sensor? They aren't big but there does seem to be a few black dots there.

Nice capture. We don't get a lot of lightening here so I haven't ever really had the opportunity to get it. I'll never forget a lightening storm I saw in Idaho though. The lightening looked as thick as a building, and we all had to squint it was so bright. But I digress, you positioned the lights well so that they add instead of subtract from the shot.

Very nice Mark! I'm still waiting for the elusive evening storm to make it's way across Melbourne. We had one a few mornings back, but there was no way I was getting out of bed at 2am......not even for lightning!

Camera is always ready to walk out the door, and so is the new tripod I have yet to christen! I just have to wait for Mother Nature to cooperate! One day it will happen.

Do you have any others from that night? I'd be interested in seeing them.

this link seems to work fine
sensor is clean as far as i know. may have been dust blown onto the lens through the course of the night shooting in the storm. Had a shitload of friggin moths circle me as I shot so they left bits of dusty/sticky wings everywhere as I swotted them away. lol

where abouts was that shot from? area doesn't look familiar to me...

it's shot from the rooftop of Indooroopilly shopping center. There were nearly no other cars left up there. (just the one old falcon some guy couldnt be bothered to move) and there is a small section where the rooftop carpark is under the cover of an air conditioning unit and that gives a mostly uninterrupted shot in a wide range of directions but I struggled to get the lens to not have lens flare from the very bright halogen lights up there. There is room for about 7 cars and 20 photographers up there in that spot.

With all the warnings of a season of storms coming up I expect it to be a regular meeting spot soon

I was really wanting to head to the lookout on Mt Coot-Tha but with the number f strikes I saw up there I just couldnt take the risk. Shame as the view from up there would have been just that much better.
