saw this at my local park today. Never seen one here before.
Wasnt the best shot but I just love the eyes of these things.

Was working my way closer but some crows attacked and it flew off.

I did look at this one when you posted it Steve but I haven't had a chance to get back and reply. What a top image! That eye is amazing. Is there any mileage in trying to up the shadow detail on the dark side of the head? Feather detail along the back is really sharp.

Like it a lot!

I did notice that some detail of the eye is available in that shadow.
I wasnt that happy with the high angle on this bird so didnt spend any time on it.
Unfortunately a crow scared it away before I could move into a better position.
Its funny also because you can often get fairly close to these birds but this one was very wary.
I find that with lots of the birds around here. I am sure people must throw stones at them or something.

While the eye is very striking there is severe haloing around the feet and perch.

Darryl,
Actually the haloing is just from a very quick and dirty dodge job on the feet.
I just wanted to see some legs and just hit it with the dodge burn tool.
There was no finesse involved just click/whack finished.

Initially wasnt going to post it, but like I said before, ya gotta love the eyes on these things.
