uploading to flickr - help!![]() why are my uploaded images coming out so small...and looking very dull? any help appreciated. cheers R2
What does the original look like? What was the orignal size? When you upload to flickr, flickr then processes that image into multiple sizes, and then shows the medium size (i think) version by default.
files sizeoriginal was 1500 x 2100 - it was a big file (6.0m) but flickr still cut it right back. it was also far more colourful
I know you arent supposed to upload full files but I have tried with 3 other images reducing their file size down to something less but still getting only the thumbnail. OOOPs.....do I need to add jpg to the end of the file extension? thanks for your interest. cheers Damian
The flickr faq says max size is 5mb for a free account, 10mb for a pro account. Have you got a free or pro account?
I use their web based upload tool and have never had issues. But I resize my images so that they are rarely over 1mb (Optus cable has a slow uplink ![]() Flickr faq link that discusses image size.
![]() thanks Ozczecho - finally traced the correct procedure and have printed it off for future reference! now that its up still looks flat but my main advice I need is on the compostion. I have read about the rule of thirds etc and interested to know how you go about setting up this sort of shot that I have cropped and done some adjustments to in PS. As a thick skinned newbie I am happy to take on your advice as I want to do more beach shots tomorrow weather permitting and have just bought a circular polarising filter to play with. one thing about my photos - sports, macro and landscape - I'm crap at all of them...but looking forward to learning from the wiseheads in this forum!! cheersR2
rookie2, glad I could help out with flickr.
As with the composition, you have definately come to the right forum on getting advice from various people at various levels of background and photog skills. I am myself I newbie, so I would take anything a say with a grain of salt. ![]() Not knowing what was on either side of the tree, I would have shot the image landscape, and place the tree more to one side. At the moment it really fills the foreground. Best advice is take heaps of shots with different settings, setups and compositions and then analyse the results at home. Post a few pics up for critique here and see what the wise heads say. HTH (a little atleast)
composition advicenice to not feel overwhelmed by being in the presence of pros who don't consider newbies such as myself.
thanks for the tips ozczech - I'm going to go back to original RAW file and see if l can landscape it. looking forward to learning lots more here..I tried dpreview earlier but they dont have our sense of humour (or maybe dont like wasting time with luggheads like me...my memory is very short term and fades quickly at night when I am on the PC doing this stuff. I will be posting a few more images tonight for feedback. cheers R2
