Stunning color! He (or she?) has an inquisitive look as though they're wondering what you're up to
![]() Tempted to clone out the couple of hot spots in the background to help focus attention on the subject and to maybe sharpen a feathered selection around the eye. Wow, the color and caught it in a good pose too... Aka Andrew
Nice portrait Simon...
I was quite surprised to see a King Parrot in my backyard yesterday... However, I didn't have my camera to hand unfortunately... Cheers, John

Sorry for being a bit tardy replying to these comments...
Thanks Andrew - I didn't worry too much about the hotspots as leaving them in will remind me to compose more thoughtfully next time ![]() The sharpening was something else I tried to fix but it just kept looking wrong. In the end I just settled for doing a pin light blend on the green channel to bring out some detail in the feathers and left it at that. These guys are so briliiantly coloured that they almost look oversaturated so I din't want to play around too much with the shot. Much more practice required, though I doubt I'll get the 200-400VR to play with again.. Leek - No excuse mate! Have that camera nailed to your body at all times!! ![]() K: You're certainly right, the DOF drifts off quite markedly. Your eyes are fine. It's my manual focussing skills and aperture selection that need work. ![]() Simon

Brilliant colour and well captured Simon. Full-on red like that is hard to deal with, but you have done well here.

You're telling me, Trevor! I had no idea that red was going to be so overpowering. ![]() I think I know what I'll do next time: "Here crow...Here crow...." ![]() Simon

Hi olrac - I tried to go in close on the eye but the res blew it to pieces before I could get the magnification required. I take your point though; there's definitely a good reflection there.
![]() Thanks Marco - glad you like. Simon

Strike that a sharp eye there Simon, I love these birds, if only they would sit still to be photographed!
