Bee Keeper

A few pics from last weekend.

My mate across the street was watching me flit around the yard trying to photograph bees and offered to take me out to his hives.

I am not that happy with the clarity, but maybe I am expecting to much from a 70-300G lense, X1 filter, dull day, handheld and and bees everywhere.

The shoot was a lot of fun and quite educational, hope you enjoy.

Cheers - Greg

Greg, I reckon they're pretty sharp considering dull day, filter, hand held etc. The 70-300G doesn't do a bad job considering its price. Might have had something to do with the photographer as well. :)

There would have been heaps of camera blur if it was me behind the lens with all those bees flying around.

I think you've done a great job! I don't think you'd get me close enough to take those kind of pics!

Did anyone notice the cockroach in the 4th shot down???

Nah...it's a dust bunny.

Love the shots Greg - 3, 4 and 5 are my favs with 4 maybe just edging to the lead, despite the hitchhiker. I've got a thing for geometric patterns.

Yeah I was wondering what it was!!!

I reckon the guy in shorts and T-Shirt has to be game, but I guess after alittle smoking the bees quieten down a fair bit! And the clarity is quite good as far as I'm concerned! How far away from them were you?

Very enjoyable shots! Any more in the future?

Cheers

Scott

Thanks you all for your kind comments.

blacknstormy, there were quite a few cockroaches apparently they leave the honey alone and help keep the hives tidy.

How far away from them were you?

As close as a metre at times, while trying to get the shot below the bees where landing all over me. Without a camera I wouldn't have been so brave(read stupid).
As for more, I have been invited to photograph all stages of honey production. Hopefully a few more interesting posts in the future.
