I'm going mad trying get my exposure settings right. A photo of mine that I viewed on Birddog's computer today looked brighter than on my own computer. After fiddling with my monitor settings I've become a bit lost. I know I need to properly calibrate my monitor soon with something like Spyder.

I hope that the highlights, brightness & contrast in this image are in check. On my monitor the grain in the sky is not very noticable, but would appreciate any comments from people do see it clearly.

Contrast and highlights look fine to me. On my crt the grain is noticeable but not detrimental. On my lcd it starts to become detrimental, moreso because of JPG compression artifacts.
Really highlights the difference between viewing on CRT and viewing on LCD.

Thanks for that Stephen. Some of the grain is JPG artifacts, but most is genuine grain. I can only just see it on my monitor, so I'm thinking my monitor is too dark. On Genista's (my fiancees) LCD monitor I can't see the grain, the sky actually looks better than on my own CRT monitor. The image on her monitor is much brighter and has less contrast.

Ok, no more PPing until I get Spyder! I know after I calibrate my monitor it will still look different on everyone else's monitor anyway though. But I must do it, because I have lost confidence in the colours I am looking at on my monitor too, not just the brightness/contrast.

You must have a better monitor than mine. I can only see half the bridge.

On a more serious note, i can barely see any grain and then only when i squint and look very very closely at the screen.

Oh no! You need to calibrate your monitor too!

My CRT is calibrated and it looks fine on it. If I move the image to my LCD (which is brighter) I can see the noise, but I'd expect that. I don't see any problems with the PP on the image and think, more importantly, it would print fine (with no apparent grain in the sky).

Thanks for that, Peter. I remember you told me that your monitor is calibrated. I feel somewhat better now.

Exactly the same on my screens (LCD & CRT)... Brightness looks fine...

Your image on my 20 inch calibrated mac screen looks fine........ you can see noise if you look real hard and increase the brightness......as peter said, it should print fine.........

Looks fine on my uncalibrated CRT, highlights look good, but I always have trouble knowing exactly what my images will print out like... Will have to calibrate my screen eventually...

Looks fine to me on my calibrated LCD.
