But I wonder if they had to pay for it or merely collected it from the office, and then took it back after shooting?

BBJ,
It's a nice setup! you'll get there one day near! I can see you have gone so far in the past 12 months with your passion since your first day of your D70.

Oh yeah! but you've got the best of the bunch gears around, it won't stop there as I did in my first digital SLR 3.1/2 years ago.

I love to have a boat too, I used to have one 17 feet Haines Hunter, 1/2 cabin, 90 Merc blue band, sold it while ago, and now thinking of getting myself another.

Have you try to run a quick comparison with your D70s and the new D2x yet? on the same lens(es)? What's your finding?

How long did u own this boat for Birdy? It's one thing (besides a D2X and a house) I really yearn for and have always said if I win lotto the first thing I will do is go and buy a small/comfortable boat...big enough to tow but also big enough to sleep 2 ppl! I LOVE being on the water! Why did u sell it? No time? We have a 50 year old + 10 foot tinny with 7.5HP engine..we go out in it from time to time do a bit of fishing but would love something a bit bigger/more comfortable etc... ahhhh dreams! :D

Well i do like this setup but not for the track, ok could be used in some places, but wouldn't it be nice going to airshow or birding, surfing etc...

But this is just to show what some of these blokes are running around with and if i had this where i got my shots from i would not have got them at all, as you have to pick where you use these big suckers.

How am I supposed to even think of taking some pics at my local club, to earn some money to help fund this hobby when you have a Sports Photgrapher who has Herald Sun back page shots and is now selling them internationally.

Just when you thought it was safe to go to your local Club! :)

Jonesy,

you don't give up...... Herald who?......

Have confidence, use it as a challenge and look for the angles that he won't or can't get..... Use your equipment to its advantages (position / distance etc.), exploit the disadvantages of the gear he may have. Do you have more sport specific experience than he has? If so use that experience to lift your game to outphoto him!

Selling internationally sounds impressive but how many are being bought?

Work and build your contacts at the local club, so they only want to buy from you!

Thanks Tony,

you are right... although on the other hand it was meant to be a little more tongue in cheek that maybe it came across. But its still good advice for anyone else who maybe looking to get a break against the pros!

Cheers

Jonesy,

no worries, unfortunately I missed the tounge in cheek (I'm still relatively new here). I just can't accept defeatist attitude in anything...... so I always try to encourage others.

Regards

Tony

Tony,

There is no need to apologise as there was nothing wrong with what you said and it seems more people should have an attitude like yours.

I agree with you in trying to encourage people to at least have a go, look at the positives and work with them. Bad things and stumbling blocks do happen and there usually not a lot we can do about it... but we can take a different angle give it a go and try improving any situation.

ps... I just noticed I'm actaully newer here than you are :D
Cheers

I wonder John - the 2 cameras shown in your pics would probably be D2H’s or D2Hs’s - these 2 cameras still reign supreme in the sports field over the D2X

G'day

When I was down at the WACA earlier this week, there were two *pro* photograpghers down here. Both used the big Cannon 600mm lens.

The guy I spoke to, worked for Geddes as a staff photog but they hired the len everytime he went to the footy/cricket/etc.

Geoff,
I owned that boat nearly 4 years, sold it in the early 90, 90 horse Merc Blue band at that time was very nice. The reason I sold it coz I had no time to take it down to the water, left it on the dry nearly a year without touching it, so sold it at a bargain price.

Now, with our holiday home at Boat Harbour, five minutes to the water with a nice and large ramp, I'm looking into it again, just want some trips cruising into the bay with sunrise or sunset shooting same as relaxation. It's time to think something for our own life and seeking some quiet with friends in photographic hobby.

For BBJ,
You'll get a better gears than those two guys, I guessed! and not too far with all my best wishes to you, my friends.

For Melbourne members:
Watch out our kipper! he'll get something special to showing off all of you soon, I wish to see him coming back with heaps of bird and wildlife photos posting on this site.

For Oneputt,
The lust is never ended! the flu is only temporary gone but it'll return as the "Katrina".

Gear envy is not healthy John, it empties your wallet... stick to the action on the racetrack and be ready to capture more unexpected moments that nobody else has. ;) Those tend to fill your wallet. :P
