Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Dug this one out of my Bunya Mountains pics from a while ago. I didn't have my tripod with me and it was very dark under the canopy late in the afternoon, so there was a bit of camera shake.

An overhanging branch meant I couldn't include any more of the trunk of the central tree and a creek stopped me getting any closer - I think it would have improved the composition if I could have nailed a more diagonal, corner-to-corner look. :(

(EXIF: D70, 18-70mm kit lens, ISO 500, 1/2.5 @ f5.6)

Location shoot sounds good..... picked up my 70-200VR today..... nothing's safe from being photographed now.... :twisted:

If there's a local shoot I'd be in it...

Another location shoot would be good. This trip was with the Brisbane Camera Group but we can orgainse our own, as we did with Binna Burra not so long ago.

Simon - I love this shot. There's something almost sensual about that tree... and the simple framing sets it off. Bloody hard in low light too !!!

Thanks Narelle - I'm pleased you like it. As for the low light, the original RAW image was almost black. I didn't want to open the aperture any more; I was already sacrificing too much DOF at f5.6. I don't know how I got anything in focus at 1/2.5 hand held but that was the best compromise and the 500 ISO was as far as I wanted to go with that too, as I didn't want the shot spoiled by noise. I know it looks pretty flat and lifeless, especially compared to Mudder's beautifully rich forest shots, but I'm still learning and will just have to bite the bullet and take my tripod with me next time! :)

Hey Mic - thanks for the comment. You nailed it - the moment I saw that tree with all its twists and warps I immediately thought of you! :wink:

Nice one Simon. I think that the hardest part of these sort of shots is the exposure and you have that spot on. :D Beautiful tree.

Well... between Adobe Camera Raw and me, we got it spot on!

What a magic setting, I can imagine just how relaxing it would be to wander through an area like that, the tree's a great focal subject with what look slike a strangler growing over its trunk, terrific shapes and texture.

Hand held, wow I'm impressed :shock:
