This is my first post on this forum. First of all, I'd like to thanks all of you for all the nice pictures and interesting posts !

These pictures are among my first attempts at sports photography, but right now I just cannot figure out anything else to post here...

Nice pictures.

Make sure you look at your edges when you're taking pictures so that limbs etc aren't too close or cut off. And the colors seem to be a little washy, maybe upping the contrast in photoshop or maybe a little saturation too. I quite like the last one, as it's caught all their eyes interacting with the ball as the center. All in all these are quite well caught.

Can't offer much in the way of critique or suggestion other than the first was well caught with the ball just leaving the bowlers hand, great timing which is tricky in cricket. I know, I've tried and didn't do as well as you have...

The WB in #3 looks a little different from the others - were you using Auto WB?

Welcome to our humble forums; it's good to see a first posting with some images.

Are you using auto white balance for your images? it seems to be different for each of them, and, basically, incorrect in all of them except #4, although #2 is not too far off.

Are you shooting raw or jpg? If the latter, there's little you can do but alter the colours, but if the former, you should have a play with the images in NC and see what you can do to make the wb more consistant.

I like these pics Derek - you have caught the action well. Were these taken in your home town?

Some nice action shots. You might want to try shooting with a wider aperture next time so that the background is more blurred... That would help your actual subjects stand out in the images.

Keep posting... There are a couple of members in Belgium, so pretty soon you could have your own Benelux mini-meet...

Yes, barely big enough, but thanks to the co-operation of the neighbour countries...

It was indeed a game between the local Luxembourg team (batting) and tourists from Belgium (Antwerp) in Luxembourg pitch (Walferdange).
I shoot in raw with auto w/b but am colourblind, which doesn't help much for post-processing.
Lens is a 70-200 VR, so some crop was required. For cricket, I need something bigger like ... euh ... I don't know ... 80-400 ?
I agree for the aperture, edges and w/b and I will try to improve ! Thanks again for your feedback.

To catch the action, I use a skeet trick: shooting with both eyes open. For me, it works.

Good shots Derek and welcome, remember to keep your head still, left elbow pointed down the pitch, bat and pad close together, and watch the ball right out of the bowler's hand....oh, sorry, you wanted photographic advice?
