Nice effort Steve. The pose shows off, is it the Little Kingfisher or Azure kingfisher or the 'shut-up-you-don't-know-what-you-are-talking-about-marco' kingfisher, the bright blue back. Imagine how stunning it would look if the busy distracting background of tree limbs were not there just the muted green background over the bird's white collar? Good effort though stevew.
cheers

Nice shot!
Must admit that the background is alittle distracting, but you cant have everything can you! Still better than I have managed of the buggers!

Thanks Muzza, I followed this guy between 4 trees all lunch time. So far he has always had a busy background behind him. The problem is he only stays in one spot for a minute or two. I'm determined to get a clear background shot one day!
BTW this was shot with the 80-400mm VR if anyone's interested.

I doubt it as the photo was taken in Perth WA and I just read
"Collared kingfisher - vulnerable species listing
The collared kingfisher (Todiramphus chloris) is listed as VULNERABLE on the schedules of the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act. The species was listed because:
Its distribution is less than 10,000 hectares
Its population has been reduced to a critical but stable level
It is an ecological specialist (it depends on particular types of diet or habitat)"

It's in new plumage and I'd be led to believe it's a Juvenile Male as the Female is usually greener.

Fair enough but it does look very different to the Sacred Kingfisher photos that I have.
Which can be found

From my ID book it looks very very far south as they're usually found North around Broome and around the North Coast to Qld and NSW border.

Btw, what's the species listed as in WA. NSW could be just in shit street in this regards but the QLD, NT and WA condition might be better.
