Buff-banded rail

Hi all - last shot before my camera went off to the doctor :( Apparantly, a camera turning itself on and off is a bad thing???? LOL

This is a buff-banded rail, Gallirallis philippensis. This little one was bathing in a creek at our local 'zoo', and I had just enough time to take a shot before he bolted. Low light, hence the dark colouration... but I kind of liked the way the darkness highlights the banding and markings on the bird.

Really nice shot.

Pity you didn't have time for some more. The OOF stuff at the bottom is all that's stopping it being perfect.

Nice work (again!!) Rel. Your work definately contradicts your signature

um... I actually prefer the first version. Even although the leaves in the foreground are a little (but not excessively) distracting, I think it gives the image greater depth. The second one appears a little flat to me.

Afterthought - An alternative may be to crop some of the foreground to a point just above the whitish leaf on the left. I noticed the potential of this as I scolled down the screen and didn't mind the result.

cheers,
Nat

Very sharp image Rel. I prefer the one without the OOF leaves. Lovely bird.
What lens were you using?
My only comment would be that it may have been nicer to have a larger bird.
Well done. :)
