Skinky study

I took this series a few weeks ago at lunch time (mid day) so the lighting was very harsh. The highlights are a little blown in some of the shots - probably a bit too much to save, and i wasnt shooting in raw format.

Was also let down a little by the lense (70-300G) and had to sharpen the images up in PP a bit. :?

Still having said all that these gusy are cool little dudes :) .

G'day Steve,
These would have been difficult lighting conditions, and using the 70-300 too, I think you've done well...

I like the last one the most due to teh lighting and detail, just wondering if the focus was a smidge back on the neck rather than on the head? At F5.3 the DOF would be pretty shallow, wonder if closing down a smidge might have made more depth of the animal sharper?

Good capture though as these tackers can be pretty skittish...

Steve - I agree with Mudder. Skinks are unbelievably hard to photograph -not only skittish, but the sheen on their skin makes lighting a nightmare!!! I've got more 'stuffed' shots than not !
You are doing a lot better than most of my shots :)
Keep it up

Rel and Andrew - Thanks for replying. Andrew - it is quite possible that i was having focussing issue in the series  as this is not uncommon. I should have stopped down a few stops. Oh well - next time.

Rel - The shiney skin certainly is a challenge for photography. It is very reflective.
