Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Dad goes fishing

I have always loved photography.

This shot was probably taken with an old 126 or some plastic camera
thingy, I guess I would have been 13 or 14. It is a shot of my father
having a fish at Merimbula. He never really caught anything much
and he didn't go fishing at other times. But he loved throwing a line
in when we were away on holidays - I think he just like the peacefulness of it.

Those of us that knew him immediately recognise him in this shot, just his
stance or something is so identifiable.

Photographically, I have a non-horizontal horizon, and a badly blown highlight. But I don't care.

My sister was going through some old photos and found this one. Very happy memories.

Memories are always something to cherish - just on another point, you being the English meister, surely your father was ’fishing’ and not having a fish

Greg, your post highlights that it is often the memories attached to an image which make the image so valuable.

One Putt,

My Dad died at 38 years of age (I was only 3) and I have 2 photos of him which are treasured.

Nice memories here Greg BTW.

Excellent point Chris. I think I might have drifted into what Dad would have said - "Just going to have a bit of a fish" :D

Lovely story, Greg. And isn't that what photography is all about? Being able to recall a special person, place or time - especially a loved one.

And, Chris - maybe he did have a fish! For dinner!
