looks a tad soft and has blown highlights on the white of the bird.
The file size seems quite small compared to other posts around here. I wonder what file size was set on the camera, ie jpg small, large, raw etc?

Does the title of the post mean that this is your first posted image??
If so it becomes easier from now on.

As for shooting birds, you should try to shoot with the sun behind you which will prevent your subject having shadows.

White birds pose more difficulties than other things because the white reflects more light.
You have the birds head in the sun and this makes it significantly brighter than the rest of the scene. Thats the cause of the overexposure in this area.

The sweetest light for birds tends to be in the early mornings and late arvos.
around the middle of the day you tend to get harsh light.

steve,

Thanks for the feedback.

No It was raw. I simply did not bother to do any pp on this one (brain was numb after many of them).

Positioning was not much of choice as there was water on 3 sides (it was shot at Seaworld). Yes I should have compensated for exposure but was afraid my subject would fly away.

The above title was because, I could finally get the [IMG] tags to work and embed the image properly (nothing wrong with the tags, I was doing it wrong. But followed the instructions elsewhere on the forum and it worked). My apologies for causing any ambiguity.

Once again thanks for your suggestions. I am still on L plates.

cheers,
