Mont Saint Michel

I just got back from a local camera club comp night, and am pretty chuffed that one of my shots (of 5 entered) received a merit, so here it is further critique ...

Image

It's a shot from my recent trip to Europe, plucked from a possible 2500 shots this evening in a mad rush to find images to enter. I'll post some more once I find the other real keepers.

The image link might break when it gets moved to it's final home, I'll try to fix it up ASAP when/if that happens.

:)
Cheers,
- Rog

Ahhh Roger, the English version :) The French version is quite more spectacular.

Congratulations on your well deserved award, Rog. I am always green with envy every time I see that somebody has been back to the Old Dart.

I also really admire the impoortance of editing that you indicate in your post.

Cheers,

Congrats Roger... Well deserved recognition... I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your images.

That is the French version kipper... in Brittany...
That area shares a lot of links with mainland Britain - Aside from sharing its name (Grande Bretagne) - is one of the other areas in Europe where the Celts flourished. The dialect / language spoken in Brittany is very similar to Welsh and shares the honour of being one of the oldest languages in Europe.

I can see why you thought it was England though... The foreground architecture is very similar to an Olde English village scene... The only reason I knew it wasn't England is that I had the unfair advantage of already seeing the GPS log of Roger's European Vacation...

Thanks all.

Yes, as Leek said, this is the French version. I plan to combine my photos and the GPS log so people can see where shots were taken. Then there'll be no doubt that it's the French Eiffel Tower, the Roman Colosseum etc.

Rog, I like everything about this pic except for one very strange thing. To me it seems to have a distinctive yellow colour cast.

Hi Stubbsy,

I deliberately cranked the white balance up a notch to warm it up. I think I went too far, but you get that when you try to PP, print, mount and transport 5 shots in just over an hour with ink running out, lost mounting materials and a full hard drive. :)

It sure made the merit a pleasant surprise.

For the record, the judge's critique was something along the lines of, and I paraphrase, "if I was going to photoshop it, I'd remove the trees in the middle", and "this one's all about lines, and engineering, and architecture, and layers ..."

Cheers,
- Rog

John,
The Mont Saint Michel is in Normandie, Brittany is on the other side of the small river (Le Couesnon).
Cheers,
Gerard

Fair enough... It's called the gateway to Brittany though... I mis-read it...
