Another bridge

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

I don't think I posted this before. It was taken a couple of weeks ago.

I'm looking forward to doing some night photography on Saturday night, I hope the weather is kind. :roll: I've heard a forecast of rain in Sydney.

Nice composition Dough. A Classic shot, bridge and the Opera house and great reflections.

Nice capture, but personally I'd like to see a bit more of the left side of the bridge.

Also did you do any PP to the image? I noticed a bit of banding but might be due to jpeg conversion.

Thanks PiroStitch, I intend to do a panoramic shot now that Craig has put me on to some software. At the time I wanted this "zoom" to get me past the fence. Of course I did PP! :lol: If only I could get these colours straight out of the camera. My photos are dull looking. I can see the banding you are talking about, especially when I turn the brightness of my monitor up. I don't know what the banding is? It's in my RAW too, not from my PP. :cry:

Usually banding is caused by underexposure, but in this case no idea as the exposure seems fine. Also I just noticed a big of fall off on the top RHS.

Mind you I'm on an LCD and only noticed it when looking at the banding.

I may have a solution? I went to my raw and overexposed it to bring out the banding more. This photo has not been sharpened or PPed in any other way other than the change of exposure and resize down.

See the vignetting? I get that with my polarising filter. It must have been on, stupid mistake. Could this have created the banding?

[Edit: no I'm looking, I don't think it is the PL, it was most likely too underexposed to begin with as you first suggested]

Doug, try again on Sat night with and w/out the cpl. What you're doing with a cpl on at night, I'm not sure :) I think you should consult a psych :P :P

Hahaha! Well, I know why it was on. I'd only just bought the filter that day, and was not used to removing it. I totally forgot I had it. I'll take note of my settings, and try for a slower shutter speed to get a better exposure. The RAW file looks a bit underexposed. I'll try to get it a bit more spot on. If the banding is still persists, I might have to consult a camera doctor. :lol:
