Bushfire season is here...Quite a lot of bushfires in and around south-east Queensland today. The prediction that August would be our worst season for quite some time may just be right if the last couple of days is an idication.

Nice crisp, clean shots xerubus. I can smell the smoke already! It is way to early for our Fire Season.... We have only just had the first backburn in our region last week.
Having spent a few years as a Bushy I know how hard it is to really get the shot that show the power of the flames. IMHO the best of these shots is number 9 as it tells some story. Number 7 could be called "Moses and the Burning Bush" Mal
I've got a camera, it's black. I've got some lens, they are black as well.
yeh.. far too early. It has been predicted that August will be the worse month for Qld this year.... Hopefully the prediction is wrong... I learnt a hell of a lot taking these shots... very different to the standard MVAs etc that I shoot.... and surprisingly dark within the smoke.... ![]() thanks for the comments.. much appreciated... cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
I think I remember a few photos from Ash Wednesday. Could be wrong though.
There were a few shots that grabbed me from this particular set of photos. Pictures of a highway and trees with flames as tall as the trees jumping over the highway. Pictures like that really show how powerful this beast is. Also the shot of an exhausted CFA volunteer with black charcoal smeered on his face. Darryl (aka Kipper)

that is the only shot that i felt a little worried about as the flame seemed to be coming towards me a little too quickly.... very happy with how that one turned out... cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
Looking at these images I thought they looked a bit "harsh" is probably the best way to describe it. I wonder if the flame did some weird thing.
But when I saw the B&W. It stands out from the crowd. Awesome image What, if any, PPing did you do to that other than the B&W conversion? "If your pictures aren't good enough, you're probably not close enough." Robert Capa.

no.. that was my processing.... very strange environment to be shooting in and had to up the contrast to help out. really dark under the clouds of smoke, but then very bright when the smoke thins... was a good challenge.
shot in raw... increased vignette in acr... and then processed b&w with a brown tinge. i love processing shots like that, however the newspapers don't like that type of thing at all... all they want is a colour shot correctly exposed.. which is quite boring most the time. cheers http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
